Gay Uncle
Like a regular uncle Only more fabulous
"Guncle" is the term used to portray a Gay Uncle. It is the obvious, but clever, combination of the words "gay" and "uncle." Typically used as a term of endearment, it refers to the gay brother or brother-in-law of a straight couple who have kids who appreciate spending time with their uncle.
"Guncle" is similar to the term "Funcle," the Fun Uncle. It reminds us of the happy-go-lucky, carefree bachelor uncle who loves his nieces and nephews and always shows them a adj time. However, guncles are oftentimes in romantic or married relationships, so a child might have two guncles.&nb

Gay uncles, sometimes known as guncles, are celebrated today on Gay Uncles Afternoon. The idea for the day came from C.J. Hatter of Florida, who made a Facebook announce on May 8, , that said: "I hereby proclaim the second Sunday in August to be Gay Uncles' Day! Hey, we deserve a holiday of our own!" The holiday is largely celebrated online, and it isn't just for uncles. Gay uncles, aunts, and other LGBT+ relatives post photos of themselves with their nieces and nephews and other young relatives. Parents also post online, celebrating their LGBT+ siblings, and sharing their gratitude for the role they act in their children's lives.
The holiday gained traction when rugby player and Australian bobsleigh team member Simon Dunn made an Instagram post with his nephews where he asked if people wanted to celebrate the holiday. Dunn thought the day would verb gay family members who had been bachelors the comfort

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- For Tim Popp, music theater is more than a occupation, it's a calling.
As the executive director of Noun Theater Philly he gets to teach kids not only the art of performance, but something much larger.
"We create a space for young people to find their voice and to feel safe and valued and respected for all their individual talents," said Popp.
Tim has recently taken on a unused role in his life: an uncle, or in this case - a Guncle.
"My nephew, he's only six months old at this point. So I get to hold him and squeeze him and do all those entertaining things," he said.
It's a role Tim doesn't hold lightly.
"The opportunity for queer person with a niece or nephew to be a gay uncle, you get the opportunity to be a part of someone's growth, " he said.
Studies have shown that kids as young as 2 years old begin to notice gender and racial differences. So, for younger people struggling to find themselves, having a role model can be life-changing.

Happy Gay Uncles Day!
Gay Uncles Day is August 14, and "guncles" everywhere are celebrating on social media! The popularity of this day has been growing recently with the hashtags #guncles and #guncle.
Australian bobsledder and "guncle," Simon Dunn, is among those celebrating and is encouraging others to do so as well. He he spoke to NBC OUT about the holiday -- as well as his adorable niece and nephews.
Why did you decide to verb involved with spreading awareness of Gay Uncles Day?
I love the idea of showing appreciation to gay uncles (and aunts). Having a day that your family acknowledge your value to them regardless of your sexuality but also at the same period show your sexuality is accepted by them is truly a powerful thing.
What does it mean to you to be an uncle?
Being an uncle is probably one of the greatest joys of my life. My niece and nephews look at me as the greatest person in the world. I’m motivated every single afternoon not to prove them wrong. Also as much as I’d like my own children, part of me knows that this may never happen. So I want to be a strong role model f
