&#;Eternals&#; will have the Marvel Cinematic Universe&#;s first onscreen LGBT kiss
For the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's adj to say that 'Eternals' is going to be something of a game-changer.
It'll be the first team-up movie in the franchise that won't feature Iron Man, Captain America and probably have glancing references to the Avengers. That in itself is cute crazy, but what's more important is that 'Eternals' will feature the first openly-gay character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
What's more, the movie will also feature the first onscreen kiss between two openly-gay characters, too. Brian Tyree Henry, who people will know from the likes of HBO's 'Atlanta' and the Oscar-nominated 'If Beale Street Could Talk', plays Phastos - the first openly gay character in a Marvel movie.
His on-screen husband, played by Haaz Sleiman, recently described the scene where the two share a kiss to NewNowNext. "It's a pretty, very moving kiss," he said.

Eternals Finally Fixes Disney's Giant LGBTQ+ Problem

The MCU’s Eternals goes a long way to fixing Disney and Marvel’s long-standing problems when it comes to LGBTQ+ representation in their movies. The initial conversations around it seemed promising; production members often talked about the inclusion of Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry) as the MCU’s first openly gay superhero well before the release. However, Disney’s history with promising accurate LGBTQ+ representation but offering only queerbaiting or hints kept many from being too optimistic about the portrayal.
In the run-up to its release, Marvel’s Eternals was the target of a review bomb on IMDb well before its release. Hundreds of 1-star reviews tanked the movie’s ratings before more than a few critics and early screeners were proficient to see Eternals. The vast majority of these reviews targeted the reality that Eternals features a same-sex kiss between Phastos and his husband, Ben (Haaz Sleiman).
