Gay streaming platform

Where We Are on TV

This report tracks scripted originals on eight streaming services per the official methodology of the state – Amazon Prime, Apple TV+, Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu, Netflix, Paramount+, and Peacock – yet smaller streaming platforms also construct accurate and meaningful LGBTQ narratives.

BET+, the streaming offshoot of BET, features numerous LGBTQ-inclusive shows in their slate of programming. The streamer released the third season of All the Queen’s Men, which continues to highlight lesbian characters Trouble and Blue. BET+ debuted the series Diarra From Detroit in March, introducing gay character Mr. Tea. Additionally, The Ms. Pat Show has been renewed for a fourth season, which will involve the titular Ms. Pat’s lesbian daughter Ashley and nonbinary character Jesse.

MGM+, previously known as Epix, has positioned itself as a sister streaming service to Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Freevee. The service recently premiered British Victorian period drama Belgravia: The Next Chapter, the sequel to limited series Belgravia. The show includes gay characters

While many streaming channels feature content with LGBTQ+ characters and stories, what about queer content made for and by queer people? The following streaming channels offer LGBTQ+ content, centering the narratives of queer and transgender people and are run by LGBTQ+ business owners. Some channels are free, while others charge a fee to access their content. Here are five streaming services you should know about if you love watching LGBTQ+ content.

Founded nearly a decade ago, Revry offers free streaming content on its app and several digital channels like Tubi, Philo, Peacock and more. Revry houses a sizable collection of original content, including &#;Drag Latina&#; and hosts the annual QueerX Awards. These companies involve streaming services and their respective parent companies. While streaming services usually include year-round hubs or categories to organize their LGBTQ-centered content, they also emphasize such during June.

Below, I look at how various streaming services are handling Pride Month in (and LGBTQ content in general).

    Amazon Prime Video

Prime Video has a Pride banner at the top of its page, with a link to its LGBTQ content.

That said, it’s still Prime Video, which means the LGBTQ stuff, like everything else, feels like a mess organization-wise: Prime Video material mixed with A) other streaming services’ content and B) TV shows/films only available to rent or buy.

    Disney+/Hulu

Disney-owned Hulu has a year-round “Hulu Has Pride” hub for its LGBTQ content available. For Pride Month, Hulu’s placed a link to the hub, as well as a small subsection of material, on its main page.
