So you’ve heard about Mykonos and the wild parties, you’ve dreamt about strolling through Santorini side-streets holding hands, and imagined sitting on a beach under the stars cocktail in hand listening to the sound of the waves… together in Greece.

Mykonos may have won over the gay crowds in the ’70s onwards, but LGBTQ+ travelers to Greece now contain a wide range of gay-friendly destinations to opt for from.

Whether you’re the intellectual type, the art lover or the beach bum, Greece is among the most welcoming gay-friendly countries in Europe, and is slowly but steadily evolving into a community of openness and inclusion.

There’s no disbelieve about it, tourism has played a major role over the decades in changing attitudes and fostering acceptance. Civil unions with some (not all) rights and protections were legalized for same-sex couples in ; two years later, transgender people were granted the right to switch their legal gender without having to undergo surgical alteration; and in , a law allowed same-sex couples the right to foster care c

LGBT+ Art and Performances in Athens

Atopos CVC is a non-profit arts foundation in Metaxourgeio, with a strong yet playful focus on fashion, queer identity, and alternative readings of gender politics. Experiencing Greek Food

Greek Mediterranean cuisine is also testament to the country&#x;s long history, dating back to the Ancient Greeks who had a strong focus on olive oil, wheat, wine, and fish. The Byzantine era introduced new ingredients like meats, feta cheese, caviar, nutmeg, basil and lemons. The Ottoman Empire then contributed to the Greek cuisine, introducing staples like moussaka, tzatziki (yoghurt/cucumber/oil/mint dip), yuvarlakia (meatball/rice/lemon soup), keftethes (mince meatballs) and boureki (baked filled pastries).

Today, a traditional Greek meal will be at a taverna where you can order mezethes, many miniature plates of different specialties starting with olives, hummus, tahini, and tzatziki, and moving on to other starters like cheeses, keftethes, and dolmathes (stuffed vine leaves), before moving on to different meats or fish depending on which type of meze you pick.

The most popular wine in Greece is retsina, a white wine that has a distinct resin flavor. Greece also produces other fine wines, favor Athiri, Malagousia and Moscofilero. Another popular

And it is possible that similar relationships between women were viewed positively as adequately, though there is less evidence for that.

People (and gods) who had these relationships are everywhere in Greek history and mythology, from Zeus, king of the gods, to Herakles, the greatest hero, to Sappho, the greatest lyric poet, to Sophocles, one of the t
